Cllr Abdul Jabbar holds MBE, MSc, FCIH.

Councillor Abdul Jabbar is the Deputy Leader of Oldham Council Greater Manchester. With more than 25 years’ experience as a councillor, he has been the council’s Cabinet Member for Finance since 2011 and is also responsible for the Oldham’s Climate Change Strategy.

Councillor Jabbar has been an elected councillor for Coldhurst ward since 1994 and was first the councillor of Bangladeshi heritage to be elected in the whole North West of England. In 2004 he became the youngest ever Mayor of Oldham and was later named Mayor of the Year. He is a senior councillor who has held many different positions within the council. He is a Director of Local Government Information Unit and Chairman of Greater Manchester Bangladesh Partnership Board. In 2017 his contribution to the borough was recognised when he received an MBE for his political and public service.

He is a qualified Housing Manager with over 30 years of working in social housing sector and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing. He studied at University of Salford and where gained an MSc in Housing Management. He is married with 3 children.

He is an expert in leadership and team building, climate change and disaster risk management and evidence-based policy making and contributing international training, workshops. Seminar and conclaves. He is a life member of Bangladesh Evaluation Society.
